Biography
Pieter van Regteren Altena graduated from the University of Groningen in 1980. He has been with Van Doorne since 1985 and became a partner in 1988. Since 1983, he has been active in the area of litigation and insurance law, focusing in particular on professional liability, product liability, company liability, drafting insurance policies, policy disputes, regulatory for insurance companies and brokers, and non-insured inter-company liability.
He is also active in Van Doorne's Health group. He takes a special interest in the liability of medical professionals (liability, causality, disciplinary law) and product liability (food and medicines). Since 1985, he has represented the DES Foundation in legal proceedings in the Netherlands, including help with damage-payment arrangements managed by the DES Fund. He has also acted for food manufacturers on liability issues. Since 2000, he has been involved in the defence of tobacco companies against claims from smokers.
